What are the common application fields of porous ceramics

Porous ceramics is a new type of ceramics, also known as porous functional ceramics. It is a type of ceramic that is formed and fired at a high temperature, with a large number of connected or closed holes in the body.

Porous ceramic materials have a unique porous structure of small volume density, large specific surface area, low thermal conductivity, high temperature resistance, high strength, good chemical stability, etc., and have been widely used in environmental protection, energy saving, chemical industry, smelting, food, pharmaceutical, biomedicine and other fields.

1. Porous ceramic materials for filtration and separation devices

The filter device composed of porous ceramic plate or tubular products has the characteristics of large filtration area and high filtration efficiency. Widely used in water purification, oil separation and filtration, organic solution, acid and base solution, other viscous liquid and compressed air, coke oven gas, steam, methane, acetylene and other gas separation. Because porous ceramics have the advantages of high temperature resistance, wear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength, they show their unique advantages in corrosive liquid, high temperature fluid, molten metal and so on.

2. Porous ceramic materials for sound absorption and noise reduction devices

As a kind of sound absorbing material, porous ceramic mainly uses its diffusion function, namely dispersing the air pressure caused by sound wave through the porous structure, so as to achieve the purpose of sound absorption. As a sound absorbing material, porous ceramics require small pore size (20-150um), high porosity (more than 60%) and high mechanical strength. Porous ceramics have been widely used in high-rise buildings, tunnels, subways and other places with high fire protection requirements, television transmission centers, cinemas and other places with high sound insulation requirements.

3. Porous ceramic materials used as catalyst carrier

Due to the good adsorption capacity and activity of porous ceramics, the conversion rate and reaction rate will be greatly improved when the reaction liquid passes through porous ceramic pores after being coated by catalyst. At present, the research of porous ceramics as catalyst support mainly focuses on inorganic separation catalytic membrane, which combines the separation and catalytic properties of porous ceramics, and has a broad application prospect.

4. Porous ceramic materials are used for sensitive components

The working principle of the humidity sensor and gas sensor of the ceramic sensor is that when the microporous ceramic is placed in the gas or liquid medium, some components in the medium are adsorbed or react with the porous body, and the potential or current of the microporous ceramic will change to detect the composition of the gas or liquid. Ceramic sensor has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, simple manufacturing process, sensitive and accurate detection, and can be used in many special occasions.

5, the diaphragm material is porous ceramic material.

Porous ceramics have large contact area with liquid and gas, and the battery voltage is much lower than that of ordinary materials. Therefore, the application of porous ceramics in electrolytic diaphragm materials can greatly reduce the battery voltage, improve the electrolytic efficiency, save electric energy and electrode materials. Porous ceramic diaphragms are used for chemical cells, fuel cells and photochemical cells.

6. Porous ceramic materials for air distribution devices

The gas is blown into a solid powder through porous ceramic material, which can make the powder in a loose and fluidized state, achieve rapid heat transfer, uniform heat transfer, accelerate reaction rate, prevent powder caking purpose, suitable for powder conveying, heating, drying and cooling, especially suitable for cement, lime, alumina powder manufacturers and powder transportation.

7, heat insulation porous ceramics

Porous ceramics with high porosity, low density, low thermal conductivity, large thermal resistance, small volume heat capacity and other advantages, has become a traditional thermal insulation materials. Advanced porous ceramic insulation materials can be used for spacecraft shell insulation, missile head insulation, etc.

8. Porous ceramic materials are used in biomedicine

Porous bioceramics, developed on the basis of traditional bioceramics, have been widely used in the biomedical field because of their good biocompatibility, stable physical and chemical properties and non-toxic side effects. Dental and other implants made from porous ceramics have been used clinically.
